Wahoo ELEMNT ACE vs Garmin Edge: Which Bike Computer Wins?

Quick Answer

If you want the largest display and the most intuitive touchscreen experience, the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE is the best bike computer for you. But if you prefer Garmin's extensive ecosystem and advanced training metrics, a Garmin Edge model may still be the better fit.

Screen Size and Touchscreen: The Big Difference

The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE stands out with its super-sized display and touchscreen convenience. It's the largest and most powerful bike computer Wahoo has made, designed to simplify planning, navigating, and analyzing your ride. Garmin Edge models vary in screen size and often use a mix of touch and button controls, which some riders prefer for gloved use or wet conditions.

If you value a big, vivid screen that's easy to read at a glance, the ELEMNT ACE has a clear advantage. But if you're used to Garmin's interface and want access to their full suite of sensors and features, the Edge lineup remains a strong contender.

Ride Intelligence: Who Does the Thinking?

The ELEMNT ACE includes ride intelligence that takes care of the details, so you can focus on the road. It simplifies the ride by handling routing and data automatically. Garmin Edge devices also offer smart features like ClimbPro and PacePro, but they often require more setup and customization to get the same level of automation.

If you want a device that just works out of the box, the ELEMNT ACE is the winner. If you enjoy tweaking settings and diving deep into data, Garmin gives you more control.

Ecosystem and Compatibility

Both Wahoo and Garmin support ANT+, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, and they work with popular apps like Strava and TrainingPeaks. Garmin has a broader ecosystem with its own watches, sensors, and Edge series, which can be a plus if you're already invested in Garmin gear. Wahoo's ecosystem is simpler but still integrates well with most third-party sensors.

Consider what other devices you already own. If you have a Garmin watch, staying with Garmin might be more convenient. If you're starting fresh or prefer a minimalist setup, the ELEMNT ACE's ease of use is compelling.

Trade-Offs at a Glance

• Screen size: The ELEMNT ACE has a super-sized display, making it easier to see data at a glance. Garmin Edge models vary, but none match the ACE's screen size. If you prioritize screen real estate, the ACE wins.
• Touchscreen vs buttons: The ACE's touchscreen is highly intuitive, but some riders prefer physical buttons for gloved use. Garmin Edge models often combine touch and buttons, offering flexibility. Consider your typical riding conditions and glove use.
• Ride intelligence: The ACE automates many details, reducing setup and interaction. Garmin offers more advanced metrics and customization but requires more manual configuration. Choose the ACE for simplicity, Garmin for deep data control.
